Interview Questions every New Real Estate Agent Should Ask
Get answers for these job interview questions and supercharge your search for a sponsoring broker:
Costs. Be prepared for a surprise here. At a minimum, there are three types of expenses an agent should expect: state, board/association & office. Ask them to provide a clear itemized breakdown for a new real estate agent. Remember, this does not include any marketing, transportation or general business expenses that you will incur.
Compensation. This probably matters least when starting out as a new agent. You should at least learn how your pay will be structured & what benchmarks you can meet to increase your income.
Training. Books & courses are nice, but find out what kind of personal attention / mentorship they are offering. A good mentor is worth his/her weight in gold. It’s why you see so many successful real estate agents working with business coaches.
References. Ask for the contact info of an in-house agent that started out new & is succeeding after 18 to 24 months in the business. Invite them to coffee, learn from their experience & find out what steps they took early on that led to success & what they would do differently.
There’s no guarantee you will find the right fit on your first try, but by asking these questions you will dramatically increase your chances of landing in a good real estate office.
